The Elixir of Love, the loveable comic opera by Gaetano Donizetti, returns to Washington National Opera under the direction of the renowned Stephen Lawless – fresh from WNO’s Anna Bolena last fall – with his warm and inspired take on one of the world’s most frequently performed operas. Last seen by Washington National Opera audiences in 2006, the heartwarming opera masterpiece is cherished for its whimsical wit, endearing characters, intoxicating duets and “Una Furtiva Lagrima,” one of the most hauntingly beautiful of all tenor arias. The production of The Elixir of Love also features as accomplished cast of new and familiar faces, along with young American conductor Ward Stare in his Washington National Opera debut.
